YouTube is moving to increase its share of online game streaming, which is second only to Amazon giant Twitch. In a new deal from the American company, it has signed 3 owners of famous gaming channels on the competing platform to bring them to YouTube. We're talking about Rachell “Valkyrae” Hofstetter, Elliott “Muselk” Watkins, and Lannan “LazarBeam” Eacott.
They will provide their content exclusively on YouTube instead of continuing to publish mostly on Twitch as they did before. This trio has about 21 million subscribers on YouTube alone, and they are mainly present on the platform, but most of their content is on the competitor owned by Amazon. Their videos are getting millions of views on the other platform, and they now want to move followers onto YouTube while continuing to have a presence on the other platform.
It competes with the famous LazarBeam PEWDIEPIE, as it comments on funny drawings and also publishes gaming videos, especially since it focuses on Fortnite and even Minecraft. Although Twitch has the lion's share of the live game broadcast market, which represents 61%, its share is declining in favor of YouTube and even Facebook. According to a study by Stream Elements and Arsenal.gg, YouTube accounted for 27.9% of the total hours watched in the same period while Facebook Gaming, which launched in 2018, accounted for 8.5%, and the other 2.6% went to Microsoft-owned Mixer.
Amazon's service bleeds in this competition as competitors attract its stars, and YouTube is the platform most capable of convincing them because it pays more. As a reminder, Amazon has spent about a billion dollars to buy Twitch since 2014 to enter this strong competition.
