Google's John Mueller criticized SEO and search engine optimization competitions on Wednesday, warning people that they were wasting time and effort. At the request of no one (but probably caused by Wix), Mueller took to Twitter to state this little-known fact: SEO contests are pretty useless… SEO contests never reflect real-life performance. They generate a lot of spam that negatively impacts the entire ecosystem. It's a huge waste of time and effort. The smart approach is to ignore these contests in the first place.
Mueller doesn't mention any SEO contests in particular, but he's clearly referring to the “Lovers vs. Haters” contest run by Wix. The competition encourages agencies to join and compete for the highest ranking for the term “Wix SEO” in the Google search engine, and the winning agency will receive $25,000.
Applications are open until June 6, so I think the contest will be constantly promoted throughout this month into next month. Years ago, Wix ran a similar SEO contest to showcase the purported capabilities of its platform. Participants competed using any platform of their choice to top search results for the term “SEO Hero.”
It was a controversial concept at the time, and it's a cause for controversy again now. It seems like SEO contests aren't going away any time soon, if you want to enter one, Mueller has some tips for you. Mueller adds that anyone considering participating in an SEO contest should instead put time and effort toward something more productive.
It is known that Wix is a platform for creating websites and landing pages easily and provides a free plan in addition to paid plans. It competes strongly with Blogger from Google and other services on the scene and has huge advertising campaigns and various marketing efforts through which it was able to attract many publishers to its platform. #SEO Competitions #SEO Competitions
