Palo Alto Acquires "Concile" for Half a Billion Dollars to Boost AI-Powered Security

In a move that reflects the intense competition over intelligent automation tools within the cybersecurity sector, Palo Alto Networks announced its acquisition of the startup Concile, which is no more than two years old. According to two sources familiar with the details of the deal, its value reached approximately $500 million paid in cash and stock, although neither party officially disclosed any figures when announcing the deal on Tuesday.

Who is Concile?

Concile was founded in 2024 by engineer Andrei Serban, shortly after Rippling acquired his previous venture "Fuzzbuzz," which specialized in software code security. Concile relies on AI agents capable of automating routine tasks in IT support desks, such as:

• Automatically resetting passwords.
• Granting access permissions to work applications like Figma and Miro.
• Resolving common technical support issues without direct human intervention.

Despite its youth, its client list included prominent names such as "Ramp," "Flock Safety," and "Scale AI."

Modest Funding and Quick Returns for Investors

Since its launch, Concile raised approximately $29 million across two funding rounds: a seed round of $6.2 million led by "Thrive Capital," and a Series A round of $23 million co-led by "DST Global" and "Thrive." The company was valued at around $157 million before its sale, meaning the acquisition deal delivered a quick and rewarding return for investors.

Notably, one of the company's angel backers was Nikesh Arora himself, the CEO of Palo Alto Networks, along with funds such as "SV Angel" and "Abstract Ventures."

Integration into the Cortex Platform

The security giant clarified that it will integrate Concile's technologies into its Cortex platform, which specializes in automatically detecting and neutralizing threats using artificial intelligence. The agentic capabilities offered by Concile will enable security teams to investigate and address alerts using natural language.

Arora described this addition as giving Cortex "the arms and legs needed to achieve autonomous security outcomes across the entire enterprise," referring to the shift toward security systems capable of taking action on their own.

Competition in the IT Services Automation Market

Concile primarily competed with "Serval," another rival to software giant "ServiceNow," which reached a valuation of $1 billion after a Series B funding round of $75 million led by "Sequoia" last December. Serval started as an AI-powered technical support tool and then expanded to include human resources, legal, and financial affairs.

One investor believes that Concile's exit from the market through acquisition leaves Serval in a leading position within the category of startups working on automating IT service management.

A Continuous Series of Acquisitions

The Concile deal is Palo Alto Networks' seventh acquisition during 2026, as part of an active expansion strategy. Among the most prominent deals this year:

• The acquisition of the monitoring platform "Chronosphere" for $3.35 billion.
• The acquisition of cybersecurity company "Chuy" for $400 million.

This rapid pace reflects the trend of major cybersecurity players toward absorbing promising AI startups, in an effort to enhance their platforms with intelligent automation capabilities before competitors beat them to it.
