«Fambot»: An AI Assistant That Manages the Daily Burdens of Families

As interest grows in AI agents capable of performing tasks on behalf of users, a startup called «Fambot» emerges with a different vision that goes beyond the boundaries of tech offices to reach the heart of families' daily lives. While Silicon Valley is busy developing digital assistants for business, this company is betting that families are the ones most in need of a smart hand to help them keep track of children's activities, school events, messages, and the never-ending logistical details.

An Idea Born from Personal Struggle

The company launched what it calls an «AI Chief of Staff» aimed at parents. It was founded by former Instagram engineer Greg Carlin, who serves as chief technology officer, alongside CEO David Reich, a father of three and a former leader at companies like «UnitedMasters» and «Uber», where he led a public transit team of around 250 employees.

Reich recounts that he built the product he wished he could use himself. He says: «I have three kids, and I'm constantly juggling executive work responsibilities — as is my wife — and when I come home in the evening, all I want is to spend quality, present time with my kids and help them with their homework, but I find myself spending a whole hour going through forty emails».

A Flood of Information

The burden of keeping up isn't limited to email alone, as any parent of active children knows. There are «WhatsApp» groups to follow, dedicated apps for schools and sports clubs, paper handouts sent from school, and much more. This constant effort to stay on top of every task made Reich feel he was being robbed of his most precious time with his children.

Reich and Carlin began working on a solution about a year and a half ago, later joined by the third co-founder Jason Morrow, who came from «Google» and «LinkedIn». The team's goal was to create a tool that gives families the feeling of having a dedicated personal assistant who works proactively rather than merely reacting to inputs.

How Does «Fambot» Work?

To use the service, families connect their email, calendar, and the «WhatsApp» groups they need to follow. The bot then provides a daily to-do list along with a preview of what's coming up in the calendar. The company relies on a mix of different AI models, while emphasizing that none of them are trained on user data.

What sets «Fambot» apart from other popular AI agents is that it doesn't operate solely through text messages. The company is betting that the real users of such technology will want to interact with it via the web or through a traditional mobile app interface. This gives it the ability to build more advanced features rather than settling for text alone.

A Vast Market and a Promising Experience

Reich points to around 43 million families in the United States with children under the age of sixteen, and believes they haven't received the support they need. He says: «Sometimes we know what you'll face before you face it, so you can be prepared for it».

Before the official launch, more than a thousand families tested the service, and it turned out the target audience isn't limited to large families where both parents work, but includes single-child families, single-parent families, families where neither parent works, and others. This proved the idea makes sense for any family with children.

Funding and Pricing

The company secured seed funding of 3.5 million dollars co-led by «NextView Ventures» and «Bowconst», with participation from other funds. The service is currently available for free during the trial phase on iOS, Android, and web systems, with a price to be set later close to the cost of a «Netflix» subscription, though this is subject to change.
