Google did not merely impose rules; it also worked to provide developers with tools to help them comply with them. It began by launching alert tools that notify developers when their app exceeds the new limits, enabling them to improve their code before the product reaches the user.
The company also announced additional diagnostic tools that will arrive later this year, including a «Memory Limiter» feature that prevents apps from consuming excessive amounts of device memory and provides deeper insights into app behavior and resource consumption.
Implementation Timelines
Google has given developers a deadline extending until February 2027 to comply with the new limits documented on its Android developer website, giving them ample time to review and gradually improve their apps.
In addition to the memory requirements, Google will require all Play Store apps to meet the «Zero Tap Sign-In» standard during data transfers between devices, by April 2027. This standard requires that apps needing a login — whether optional or mandatory — automatically restore the user's login state when they move from one Android device to another, via the Credential Restore API.
