The Emirati ToTok application was removed due to spying, and this is the response of the developing company

Amid global media reports accusing ToTok, the popular video calling and chat service, of being spyware and misusing user data, the developers have issued a statement denying all the accusations. Last week, ToTok was removed from the Google and Apple app stores due to allegations that it was being used as a spy tool by the UAE. It is still not available to new users, however existing users said they are able to use the Totok app to make free calls.

The app’s website published a “Memorandum from the Founders of ToTok,” which is a statement rejecting allegations that it is a spy tool. “In this holiday season of joy and celebration, we would prefer not to honor those who create lies with a direct response, but as founders of ToTok we are personally compelled to speak up for ourselves and our users,” the statement said. Referring to claims of a lack of privacy and security concerns, the co-founders said in the statement: “This is the truth from day one. We built ToTok with user security and privacy as our priority. It's not just marketing talk. A technical analysis by a former NSA employee concluded that ToTok simply does what it claims to do and nothing more really... it doesn't exploit users' data or do hidden things in secret."

She added: “Not only do we respect privacy and ensure security, but our users also have full control over the data they want to share at their own discretion, so the shameful fabrication by those who promoted this news could not be further from the truth.” The company said: “Our openness, honesty and transparency are the reasons why ToTok has a loyal and vibrant user community globally, and for the same reasons we are confident that Google and Apple will bring back our app, and thus the hundreds of thousands of new users they have waiting, will be You can finally join all of us in the ToTok community.” #ToTok #spying
