Apple reveals data tracking will be mandatory for App Store developers after December 8

Apple's app developer website has informed that they will have to submit data tracking information for new apps and app updates to the App Store starting December 8. The company has asked iOS developers to provide all details regarding the user data their apps collect as well as the rollout of app updates. Apple first announced this mandatory requirement during the iOS 14 unveiling at WWDC earlier this year, so developers will have to provide information about the type of data they collect. App Store listings will also label this information to help users understand the privacy practices of an app before it is downloaded on any Apple platform. While iOS 14 has not yet taken effect, these changes are expected to appear on App Store listings later this year. An update has also been made on the Apple developer website to indicate that developers will have to send all information related to data tracking for new applications and application updates to the App Store, starting on December 8. Once these classifications are published, each application’s product page will contain information about some of the types of data that the application can collect and whether this data is associated with it or used to track it.

This is in addition to the need to provide information about the privacy practices of your app, including the practices of third-party partners whose code you integrate into your app in App Store Connect. This information will be required in order to submit new apps and app updates to the App Store starting on December 8, 2020, as stated in the Cupertino giant’s warning to developers. There are no details about when these stickers will be published on the App Store, but Apple states that the App Store will help users understand the app's privacy practices later this year.
